The Hawke’s Bay International Marathon has taken place each year in May for the last three years. On May 18, 2019, the race returns and is back by popular demand. The most notable event within it is the Air New Zealand Marathon. This marathon allows runners and participants of all backgrounds, shapes, sizes and stories, to experience the best of the Hawke’s Bay wine region. The circuit has flat cycle trails and features vineyards and vines, olive groves and some backcountry roads. The races and events, including the full marathon, all finish at the Elephant Hill Estates winery, where a celebration is held for all participants, to honour and celebrate their efforts.
Race options include 42km, 21km, 10km and 3km, so it is an event for everyone, no matter how old, young, fit or experienced. The terrain is unique, with a combination of the above-mentioned bike trails, on the road running, and running through vineyards. The course also includes the gorgeous Napier waterfront as well.
